Text Box: GATE: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 

GATE  is an entrance exam conducted annually for admissions to various science and technology post-graduate programs by the six Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, on behalf of the National Co-coordinating Board-GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), and Government of India.
Admission of postgraduate courses, with MHRD scholarship/assistantship, in technology /engineering/ architecture/pharmacy at colleges & institutes will be open only to those who qualify in GATE. The aim of GATE is to identify meritorious and motivated candidates for admission to postgraduate programs in Engineering at the National level. In recent years, a sharp increase has been observed in the number of candidates appearing in GATE exam.
Eligibility Criteria for GATE Examination:
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear for GATE 
Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (Post-B.Sc./Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.
Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree program (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology.
Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree program or Dual Degree program in Engineering/Technology.
Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institute of Engineers (India); AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers (India)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
GATE Paper Pattern
The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3 hours duration which contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of only objective questions. In all papers other than AE, AG, AR, GG, MN and TF, all the questions are of multiple choice types.
